Rules and Regulations

Rules and Guidelines

Etiquette
a. Please be mature in your actions and reactions. Treat others as you yourself would like to be treated. Yes, this is a rather obvious rule, but it is also crucial. Disrespectful behavior between players will not be tolerated. Remember that other players may have different views about things such as characterization, plot lines and other situations. Please respect these differences of opinion for what they are.

b. If a problem does arise between players or characters that cannot be handled adequately by the players in question, please bring it to the attention of the moderators. Problems are best brought up face to face, so please exhaust your channels before taking any issue to public communities.

c. Please keep in mind that this is just a game. It is intended to be fun and entertaining. Any altercations that happen between characters should be kept in character. Likewise, any altercations that occur out of character between players should be kept out of character. Please do not allow animosity to leak from one area into the other. If you have a persistent problem with another character or another player, please contact the moderators.

d. Harassment is not tolerated. Taking harassment into other communities is also not tolerated. Anonymously commenting in other's journals out of anger spite or what have you will result in the person who made the comments being ejected from the community. There are no second chances in this situation. This makes Poseidon look bad, when its members act in this manner. We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on this as of 03/01/08.

Godmoding
Godmoding. Godmoding is neither allowed nor tolerated in this community. Godmoding consists of completing/performing/assuming the actions of other characters that you do not play. You may not injure, maim, move, influence, etc., any character (other than your own) without the other player's permission or accompanying post. The simplest way to avoid breaking this rule is to not make assumptions about characters out of your direct control.

Wide Scale Plots
Any player originated plot that will affect the campus EN MASSE should always be okayed with the moderators of the group before put into effect.

Other, smaller-scale plots do not need to be okayed by the moderators first since they can be chosen to be looked over by characters who are not involved.

Keep in mind, if you are denied a wide scale plot, we will likely tell you the reasons why. We try to be fair to all players and allow them to play their characters as they see fit (of course, within reason) If we say no to something, there are likely circumstances that would make the plot inconvenient to pre-existing storylines other players have going. Proposed plots may also be turned down or postponed if there has not been enough time between the last large scale plot and the newly proposed one. We are willing to listen and compromise of course, and an all out no is going to likely be very rare, but not nonexistent.

In addition:
When any plot is in effect, please check with those who are running the plot (be it players or mods) before you do anything that will have an impact on the plot in the long run.
a. this includes, but is not limited to NPC actions in scenes, or assumed actions, especially in the case of NPCs who come from a played character's canon.
b. in most cases the answer that you receive regarding questions -- despite who the pusher of the plot is -- is final. There is no reason to go to moderators if the player who commenced the plot has already given you an answer. Along the same vein, please don't do anything that the player or mod has specifically asked you not to do.

Sexual Situations
a. The general rating for sexual situations in this community is R. This means that the lead up to sex as well as allusions to intercourse are fine, but details of the activity should not be included in posts. This community is primarily about plot and character development; there are communities that exist with a more eroticism-central theme. Explicit sex scenes belong in those communities. At PA, please let the scene "fade to black" before things pass the R level.

b. Please bear in mind the age of the characters involved. Characters over 16 will generally not be heavily regulated in this sense by the moderators. However, for characters 15 and younger, please use discretion and common sense when choosing what sorts of scenes to play them in, or what sort of activity to allude to. The mods reserve the right to request a player edit and/or remove posts that cross the line of appropriateness. Refusal to comply with the moderators' requests will result in probation. Repeated offenders will be expelled from the community.

c. Non consensual sexual situations will not, under any circumstances, be tolerated. Posts will be immediately deleted. Violating players will be dealt with on case by case basis. Please note that the mods have a very low tolerance for violation of this rule, and are more likely to eject players than allow for probations or warnings.

Grammar and Spelling
Grammar and spelling are quite important. Please be attentive to your posts, and please use the spell check feature. That said, typos happen to all of us, from time to time.

Posting Requirements
Posting occurs both in the RP community as well as in individual character journals. Players must post in each character's journal at least once a week. While scenes generally take longer, they also provide for more character development than just journal entries. Please try to post a scene once a month per player (which is different than "per character"). This is a posting minimum. Posting more scenes is both encouraged and appreciated.

At Poseidon Academy, there is no character limit. The number of characters is only limited by the amount that the player can take on. How active a player is in the community is taken into account when they apply for more characters. However, a player may not have more than 4 characters from an individual series. This prevents the entire cast of a Game/Series/Manga from being taken by one player and also sparks interaction between different players.

Accepted Genres
Video Games
PA accepts characters from most video game genres. Roleplaying, Fighting, and some platform are the main three. As long as there is significant character development and a way to base a personality, history, etc. from the information provided in the canon materials, we will consider the Game. If you are unsure if the character you wish to apply for is appropriate for this setting, please contact one of the mods and ask us. We will be more than happy to help you through adjusting your character for game play as well as we can.

Anime/Manga
We are willing to accept characters from most anime and manga series. However, please take a moment and look over the character and series your character is from to make sure that it is adaptable to PA's storyline. If you are unsure if the character you wish to apply for is appropriate for this setting, please contact one of the mods and ask us. We will be more than happy to help you through adjusting your character for game play here as well.

Books/Television/Other Media
PA is a multi-genre Roleplay, so characters from television series, books, etc. will also be considered. AGain, please take a moment to decide if the series you are looking to play is appropriate and adaptable to the environment at PA.

General
Also, once accepted with your character into PA please refrain from using powers destructively or in an attention-grabbing manner. We realize that some characters are very strongly connected to their unique abilities, and tend to use them in the course of normal living. This is acceptable. All actions involving powers used in Poseidon Academy Campus can and will be punished IC by the maintainers of Poseidon A if used in a manner that is destructive, harmful to another character, disruptive to daily life, or otherwise extremely out of place. Said consequences may not be pleasant for your character. This rule basically goes back to Godmoding. Please remember your character is not the only character in the group. Please also remember that the setting of this game is a city setting for character development and plot and should not be treated like a war zone.

Interpretation of AU
Yes, this is an Alternate Universe game. However, our take on AU is a little different from most. The characters that are in PA are to be completely canon up until the point that they arrive at Poseidon Academy Campus. From this point, they deviate from the track that they were originally taking, and can slowly begin to develop differently than they would have should they have continued down the canon line.

If you wish to AU your characters more than this, and set them up with a different backstory in order to make them playable in this setting, please discuss this with both the moderators and the other players of the fandom your applicant character is from (if any). We will make exceptions for certain characters, as we understand sometimes playability is hard with certain settings.

If you are applying for a character from a series that already has characters in play, please research the characters, or better yet contact their players to find out what point in the game/series they are being played from. They set the precedent, and that's what will be followed.

Basic mechanics
Scenes
Scenes can be posted one of two ways - thread RP or AIM RP. Thread RPs should be started in the community, listing "who, what, where, when, warning". AIM RPs should be completed over AIM, cleaned up (screen names and times taken out) and then posted. All RPs need to go under an lj-cut to save space on the friends pages of members.

An example of how to post your RP:

Who: Character1 and Character2
What: Getting to know each other
Where: Thier Quad
When: Yesterday Afternoon
Warning: None

(lj-cut goes here)

Again, this is just a guideline to posting, all you really need to do is make sure the people involved and the warnings are posted before the cut. The what, where and when aren't that important, but fun sometimes.

Lj-Cut
Knowing how to use a cut is crucial to being able to post scenes, or post privatized posts in a journal. Below you will see the correct way to format the coding for a cut.
[lj-cut text="write some text here"]

stuff under the cut

[/lj-cut]

Just replace [ and ] with < and >.

Character Personal Journals
The journal you create to join [info]poseidonacademy is for your character's use. This journal will be used to for your character to write as him or herself in first person... to talk about anything and everything he or she feels the need to write.
